Module 14. Discussion Neutral America

Q After World War One, America wanted to keep the United States out of another European war. Deeply alarmed by that conflict, Roosevelt adopted cautious—and possibly deceitful—methods to circumvent the Neutrality Acts and aid the Allies. To complete the Discussion activity, please do the following: • Pretend that you are a neutrality advocate and argue against entrance into the war or pretend that you are an advocate for entering the war. Write a two or three paragraph argument that considers: o What do you believe were the main reasons that some Americans wanted to remain neutral in the war? o What political options did neutrality advocates have, and how did they try to stop U.S. entrance into the war? o Why and how did the Roosevelt administration begin moving away from neutrality once war erupted in Europe? • When you are done, post your paragraphs to the discussion forum. Review your classmates’ responses, and argue the other side. Respond to at least two posts.

The rising powers of Germany and the Soviet Union had been threatening for America. This is because there could have been attacks launched on America to capture America. Therefore, there had to be neutrality maintained by America to not protest against Germany or the Soviet Union. Otherwise, Germany and Soviet could attack and win over/capture America observing the track record of success of Germany and the Soviet. There had been lack of budget by the American government to sponsor another war. There had been debts which the American government had already acquired. The debts had to be repaid and there could not be more debts taken.
